FBS Football Requirement Changes Effective In 2023

Here are the three changes made to FBS requirements that went into effect on Oct. 4, 2023:

Eliminate attendance requirements at FBS schools (effective immediately).
Increase the application fee for transitioning from FCS to FBS from $5,000 to $5 million (effective immediately).

Require all FBS programs to provide 90 percent of the total number of allowable scholarships over a two-year rolling period across 16 sports, including football. FBS schools will also be required to fund 210 scholarships each year, amounting to no less than $6 million annually (effective August 2027).

For schools that begin transitioning to FBS in 2024-25 or later, requirements must be met by the conclusion of the transition process.

I am wondering what the 210 number of scholarships are for other than the 85 for football?

Gee.................. I suspect you're forgetting the 26 (as I recall) for "tumbling" and acrobatics. 02-13-banana

I was just wondering as to how the 210 would be broken down. We know the 85 for football but how many would be specified for which other sports? In other words, would the FBS require a certain number of scholarships for certain sports?

And that $6 mil annually? Seems like that could be calculated in numerous and various ways - unless the NCAA has this iron clad formula.

But, back to the big question - does ETSU have the MONEY or willing donors with the MONEY to look into this? Talk to us, Buc76.

RE: The Future of ETSU Athletics
There has been talk on here of how APSU was moving on past ETSU in athletics as the school announced its intentions of transitioning to FBS. This development in football (below) doesn't seem to add up with relation to that. If APSU can’t retain its head coach in that he left for UTEP - then how are they gonna pay for this transition up - certainly the $5 million fee to begin with? Are they now having a reality check?
